Summer is an important time to increase your pointe skills. Students who miss pointe for several weeks lose needed strength and are behind when they return; sometimes resulting in having to repeat a level. This is why it is imperative to continue pointe training during the summer. Pointe students will continue attending every Friday, but at an earlier time during the summer. They attend pointe class each week, not only during their intensive weeks. Classes are held Fridays June 9, 16, 23, 30 July 14 & 21. Vacations are understandable. Pointe students must enroll in the summer pointe session and can make up for any missed days just like they would during the regular school season. July 7th and 28th will be open for make up classes if needed. If your student was in Pre-Pointe last year, she will enroll in Pointe 1 this summer and continue in that level throughout the year. If she was in Pointe 2 last year, she is now in Pointe 3 and so on.

Summer Pre-Pointe Class:
Students must be turning 12 this year (at least), and have had a minimum of 3 hours of ballet per week for the last 2 years to join the Pre-Pointe class. Please don't buy Pointe shoes yet. The Pre-Pointe class is taken "on flat" until students are individually deemed ready to buy their Pointe shoes. Students must begin in the summer and come once a week each Friday for the full 6 weeks, not just on the weeks of their intensives. Classes are held June 9, 16, 23, 30 July 14 & 21 from 9:30 to 10:30AM. Vacations are understandable. July 7th and 28th will be open for make up classes if needed. The last half hour of the second class, Friday June 16th, will be a parent meeting. Please plan on joining your student at that time in the studio. Summer Hyper-extension class:
This workshop is for students with naturally hyper-extended knees. If you aren't sure whether your student is hyper-extended, you can have her/him perform this test:

Sit on the floor with legs extended straight in front of body, knees facing up to the ceiling. Straighten knees all the way. If the heels come an inch or more off the floor the student is hyper-extended. They may also have difficulty getting their heels together in 1st position while maintaining tight knees. Most hyper-extended dancers are also bow-legged or have knock knees. These dancers need to strengthen certain muscles to keep their legs straight instead of sinking into hyperextension when weight-bearing (which puts stress on ligaments behind the knee). Many also overcompensate and dance on bent knees. This must-have class will help students transform and correct these difficulties. It also helps with turn out and sunken arches. The 5 week workshop meets Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm, June 7, 14, 21, July 12 &19th. Each class will continue from where the prior one left off.
